I'm not sure anyone even follows this community any longer, but on the chance there is someone still watching I wanted to share that new fanfic from me is available. After an embarrassingly long hiatus, The Journey series is back in action. Those who wish to check it out will find three new stories available. Titles and the episodes with which each is associated are listed below.

All that Matters - Threshold
Tête-À-Tête - The Fifth Man
Passages - Rite of Passage

I admit, I'm particularly excited about that last one. It is, without doubt, a classic Dan/Jan episode and I'd looked forward to writing a story for it for a l-o-n-g time.

Those who opt to take a peek at any of these, I hope you enjoy. And if you know of any other Dan/Jan on-line haunts that are still active, please feel free to share. :)

(So close to being on schedule this time!)

Trepidation of the Spheres is another of the "classics" of the Daniel/Janet fandom. So classic, in fact, that pellucid is still Isabelle Ashe. :)

Anyway, I am pretty sure I read this fic before I saw the "2010" episode, and it inspired me to write 2010 fic without having seen the episode. It also introduced me to pellucid, which I consider one of the hallmark moment of my life.

The fic itself is a giant temporal "what if?", and a well built one at that. It goes on after 2010 on the principle that the world we saw in that episode did not disappear, but kept on. It's an idea I really like, and this fic definitely shaped my view of the series after that.

I don't have my review of this fic (I am not even 100% sure I reviewed it at all!), but it's definitely worth a (re)read.

(I really did think about this on Friday. And then I forgot!)

Oh, Mind Fever!

(Not, for the record, my second D/J fic. My second fic was...actually, this might be my second fic...I do know I got here from "Breaking the Code", because mylittleredgirl mentioned Meg in her Author's Note.)

Anyway, Mind Fever! Not a fic for the faint of heart. Meg gets right into the angst and potential for tragedy that the Daniel/Janet fandom has always offered. And she managed to do it about four years before I reached that stage myself, and I still bought it. ;)

My original review of the final chapter:

I had great plans for this review. And I have completely forgotten all of them.

This story (for it has long ago transcended "fic"dom), was truly remarkable. I loved it and hated it, laughed and cried over it, found hope and despair in it, and almost missed a midterm reading it. But that's another story altogether.

I think my favourite part of this story was the shift between the surreality (is that a word?) of the "sick" chapters and the reality of the "healing" chapters. Of the two, I preferred the surreal parts, because you write very good dream sequences, and because I liked seeing how you wove them all together into Daniel's illness and how it affected those around him.

You handled the minor characters brilliantly. Cassie was a masterpiece, Carmichael I truly loathed and all of the planet locals were there own separate being.

The disease itself was a work of art. The perfect example of a seemingly good bioweapon gone horribly, horribly wrong. It was truly frightening, and the infection, suffering and recovery was exceptionally well dealt with.

Daniel was a piece of work. In every sense of the words. There were times when I found myself hating him, which is odd, because he's easily my favourite character, but I think it just helped me connect to what he was putting his friends through. I liked that you really made him suffer. It made the story arc way more realistic.

And Janet...well, you know how I feel about your Janet. She made me cry. She broke my heart. She made me laugh and hope and want to keep reading, even though I was terrified that "Heroes" was going to happen. Her strength and resolve were nothing short of magnificient and you wrote her exceptionally well.

And the verses at the end...perfect summary of the whole idea of the story (or, my interpretation of it anyway).

So, I guess in a nutshell, I loved it.

Congratulations on a job well done.

So read it. Re-read it. Bring kleenex.

Brief Disclaimer: The "fic of the week" will be randomly selected by me once a week (ie. whenever I remember). Every once in a while, one of my own fics will be the fic of the week, because for a long time, Daniel/Janet was what I wrote. I will aim for Friday, as that gives the weekend to read. Basically, the idea is to remind us all about Daniel/Janet in the year of 2010.

ANYWAY:

Breaking the Code, by mylittleredgirl was, I think, the very first Daniel/Janet fanfiction I read. I found it while looking for Sam/Jack stuff, when I stumbled across Red's ff.net page. I knew who Daniel was (obviously), and I kind of had a crush on him. I believe my exact thought about Janet was "Oh right. That's the doctor I am NOT GETTING ATTACHED TO.", except I read the fic anyway, and the rest is, uh, history.

The story represents everything I love about Red's fics. There are ridiculous details, it's about linguistics, and it just kind of rambles on this force. It is, I think, one of the two "believable" scenarios for Daniel/Janet...and the fact that it's the happy one just makes it even better. (We'll get to the others later, I promise.)

My initial review of the fic is this:

You know those stories that make your stomach shift ever so slightly to the left when you read them? This was one of those. It was perfectly crafted, and absolutely...fluffy.

And I am going to find that DS9 reference if it takes me the rest of my life.

I still haven't, but it's one of the few fics that I can read and re-read again and again, so I supposed that's okay. ;)
